What is an alcohol and drug detox clinic?
An alcohol and drug detox clinic is quite different from an addiction rehab centre like The Retreat NZ.
A detox clinic is a medical facility, staffed by trained doctors and nurses that are trained in managing withdrawal symptoms.
Not all patients need to use a detox clinic
Generally, detox clinics would take a patient that either:
a) Has a physical dependency
b) Would experience significant discomfort with unassisted withdrawal
c) Would risk their health when withdrawing without medical assistance
Some withdrawal symptoms, such as that from an alcohol detox, can be life-threatening. Depending on the substance and level of dependency, a drug detox treatment may also be required.
The Retreat NZ is not an alcohol and drug detox clinic
We provide alcohol and drug rehabilitation.
Distinguishing between detox and rehab is important because a detox clinic is far from the final solution on a path to sobriety. Statistics have shown that being exposed to a detox program alone is highly likely to lead to relapse from patients, whereas combining a stay at an alcohol and drug detox clinic with subsequent entry into an ongoing rehabilitation program is essential for long-term, successful recovery.
Alcohol Detox & Drug Detox – The Retreat NZ Difference
Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation programs at The Retreat are run with the help of many former addicts who believe in the power of community, not a government body of a church. They volunteer their time and experiences of their own journey to recovery.
Our volunteers are committed to help others because they have been through drug and alcohol addiction themselves and they want to bring about change. It’s not run by the government or by a church, but by people who believe in the power of community and the 12 step tradition.
